West Midlands Police recommends these specific layers to protect your vehicle: Primary Layer: Physical Steering Lock Use a sturdy lock that is Sold Secure tested or Secured by Design approved. Full-cover "Disklok" types are highly recommended as they are difficult to remove and very visible. Secondary Layer: Key Protection Faraday Pouch: Store keyless fobs in a signal-blocking pouch to prevent "relay theft," where thieves intercept the signal from inside your home. Safe Storage: Keep keys well away from the front door and windows to prevent them from being "fished" through a letterbox. Tertiary Layer: Driveway & Technology Driveway Security: Consider installing pull-up metal pillars (bollards) to physically trap the car on your drive. Trackers & Alarms: Use Thatcham-rated category 1 or 2 alarms and tracking systems to help recover the vehicle if it is taken. Final Layer: Habitual Checks Double-Check: Always pull the handle to ensure it’s locked, as thieves may use "jammers" to block your remote signal. Clear the Cabin: Never leave valuables like bags, cash, or electronics on display; even a small amount of change can tempt a break-in
We regularly hold police surgeries and drop-in sessions for you to come along and get advice on crime prevention, protecting your homes or cars etc NEXT Police Surgery is Sunday 12th July 2026 11.00 – 12.00 at Wollaston Village Hall, Bridgnorth Road Wollaston.
